The King’s Nap

Photography by Herman van Bon (Instagram: @hermanvanbon)

Available as print on canvas (120x80cm) at Studio98 in Napier, South Africa.

“Close-up with 100mm lens. There are many wildlife photographers but virtually all use a super tele-lens. But there are exceptions as the French photographer Laurent Bayeux (google) who sits somewhere in the North Pole with a 50mm lens in the middle of polar bears playing with their cubs. I’m not a wildlife photographer but I learned a lot from these exceptional photographers who communicate with their subject. A few years ago I had the chance to go into the wild (walking) with a knowledgable guide. We observed and followed an elderly lion that kept on keeping an eye on us. At last we could get close enough -the King was tired- for this photo”.
